Auctioneers

From the earliest days of the NSW Colony, many persons active in commercial life held an Auctioneer’s licence.

The Auctioneers Database contains the names of over 9,300 persons listed in the New South Wales Government Gazette as having held a New South Wales Auctioneers licence at some stage over the period 1848 to 1900.

It covers a wide range of districts and contains the following details:

o Name of auctioneer

o Type of licence

o District

o Period of licence.

A number of convicts were transported to NSW from India, including David Cusshon, who was tried at Bombay in 1828.
