1831– Legislation previously passed by the NSW
Legislative Council to restrict the press is disallowed by the Colonial
Office (January 1831).
1831 - First issue of the
Sydney Herald newspaper (renamed the
Sydney Morning Herald in 1842).
1831 - Ripon land regulations decreed that no
more Crown lands were to be granted or leased without purchase. The
money raised from land sales was to assist immigration.
