Church Clergymen Maintained in the NSW Colony during 1843

During 1843, 104 Clergymen received financial support from the New South Wales Government. The number of Clergymen for each denomination was:

Church of England:                  53

Roman Catholic:                      24

Presbyterian:                            20

Wesleyan:                                     7

Total:                                       104

 

The following list of 104 NSW Clergyman was prepared on 3 October 1843 for inclusion in a Despatch of Governor Sir George Gipps to Lord Stanley, and was printed in Volume 23 of the Historical Records of New South Wales which was published by The Library Committee of the Commonwealth Parliament.

Those who were ordained in the Colony, or came to the Colony without the permission of the Secretary of State are noted.
